Dr Cha is a surgeon at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC). He graduated from Dalhousie University, Canada in 1998. He entered surgical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and completed his training at the University of Wisconsin in 2004.

He trained at the New York University Medical Centre on minimally invasive bariatric surgery and attained a Fellow of the American College of Surgeon in 2009.

Dr Cha is experienced in minimally invasive surgery with an interest in bariatric surgery. He is also a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

Suitability for Surgery

If your body mass index (BMI) is 37.5 kg/m² or more, you are eligible for weight loss surgery to reduce your weight.

However, If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, back pain or sleep apnea, you can consider surgery to lose weight if your BMI is more than 32.5 kg/m².

Laparoscopic Gastric Banding

The laparoscopic surgical is a minimally invasive surgery that is performed in the abdomen through small cuts called keyholes. This result in reduced pain, risk of bleeding and hospital stay.

Intragastric Balloon

The intragastric balloon is a non-surgical procedure which involves inflating a silicone balloon with normal saline inside your stomach to reduce what you can eat.
