About Dr Cha
Dr Cha Kar Huei is a Consultant Bariatric and General Surgeon at Hospital Picaso, Petaling Jaya. He graduated from Dalhousie University, Canada in 1998 and completed his surgical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Wisconsin in 2004.
He subsequently trained in minimally invasive bariatric surgery at the New York University Medical Centre and was awarded Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in 2009. He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
A Different Kind of Surgeon
He carries the title of General Surgeon. But what Dr Cha does in the operating theatre is anything but general.
Most general surgeons handle a broad range of routine procedures. Dr Cha has chosen a different path — one that demands years of additional training, specialist expertise, and the courage to take on cases that many surgeons would not.
He operates at the intersection of minimally invasive technique and complex surgical oncology. He brings robotic precision to hernias that would ordinarily require large open wounds. He resects tumours that sit in the most difficult corners of the abdomen. And he does all of this through keyhole incisions — because he believes patients deserve better than a large scar and a long recovery.
If you have been told your case is complicated, or been referred elsewhere because it is too difficult — Dr Cha is exactly who you should be speaking to.
Stomach and colon cancer surgery through keyhole incisions — the same oncological rigour as open surgery, a fraction of the trauma. Robotic gastrectomy with D2 lymph node dissection. Laparoscopic colorectal resection with NOSES.
Large ventral hernias. Recurrent hernias. Failed previous repairs. Dr Cha performs Robotic Transversus Abdominis Release (TAR) — a technique that allows reconstruction of the most complex abdominal wall defects through small keyhole incisions rather than a large open wound.
Retroperitoneal liposarcoma. Leiomyosarcoma. Large GIST. These are rare, complex tumours that most surgeons will never operate on in their careers. Dr Cha takes on these cases — with meticulous pre-operative planning, multidisciplinary coordination, and the surgical experience to achieve complete resection.
